From the 10th to 14th of February, the Learning Week of Aveiro took place as part of the Claim Your Future project. It is a project funded by the European Commission’s Erasmus+ programme under the Key Action 2 – Strategic Partnerships for Vocational Education and Training.
This Learning Week was organised in collaboration with the School José Estêvão in Aveiro and aimed at students from vocational and university education, with the presence of 28 young people from 4 different countries: Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom and Portugal.
The young people had the opportunity to visit the city of Aveiro and the José Estêvão Secondary School, the PCI – Creative Science Park (business incubator management and business reception) and to receive a session facilitated by Valéria Menezes of SPEAK (a platform connection people from the same city through a language exchange programme). Part of the agenda was dedicated to workshops and presentations on social entrepreneurship facilitated by the own students to their peers. In addition, they carried out group work which culminated in presentations to the Aveiro City Council on proposals to improve the region.
The Learning Week of Aveiro closed a round of six events, organised over the three years of the project, with the aim of young people from different countries becoming familiar with local realities, contributing to a more open mind-set and raising awareness of the problems in other regions.
Claim your Future sets the ambition to inspire students to steer change and innovation in their region. It is an initiative of VET schools, universities (of applied sciences) and NGO’s of 6 European countries, placing students in the lead. The aim of the activities and tools is to inspire young people to steer change and innovation, through becoming role models to their peers and through raising awareness. Students become aware of the fact that an ongoing investment is needed in skills and ambitions for the rest of their lives. Innovation asks for new role models and Claim your Future inspires students to foster initiatives.
