Project A-AAgora is one of only two European projects approved in the 2021 call within the scope of the Ocean Mission of the Horizon Europe program of the European Commission, whose candidacy was signed by INOVA+.

INOVA+ and the leader University of Aveiro, together with 10 national entities and 18 European partners, make up the consortium that will invest 8.5 million euros in an innovation project for the restoration of marine and coastal ecosystems and increase climate resilience in the basin of the Arctic and the Atlantic. The coordination, preparation and development of the application for the European framework program was the responsibility of INOVA+.

As part of the Ocean Mission of the European Commission’s Horizon Europe programme, the project A-AAgora – Atlantic and Artic basin lighthouse – restoration of marine and coastal ecosystems and increased climate resilience aims to define and implement a plan for the Atlantic-Arctic Agora that incorporate how Nature Based Solutions have evolved through demonstration and a validated management framework.

The main objective of the project is to implement three demonstrators of the model, true Living Laboratories, in Portugal, Ireland and Norway. The project advocates the expansion of the results and good practices of the three demonstrators, from which exchange synergies will be promoted between researchers, policy makers and industry.

The consortium is made up of 30 partners, including 12 Portuguese entities, notably the innovation consultancy INOVA+, the leader University of Aveiro, the University Nova of Lisboa, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the Coordination Committee and Regional Development Center (CCDR Centro) or the Administration of the Port of Aveiro (APA).
