With €6.18 million in European funding from the Horizon Europe programme, the RESiLiTE project aims to revolutionize battery technology for electric vehicles and aircraft. INOVA+ is a partner in this strategic initiative focused on sustainable mobility.

The RESiLiTE project addresses a global challenge: developing advanced, lighter, more efficient, safer, and more sustainable batteries, capable of accelerating the transition to zero-emission electric mobility.

Electric vehicle batteries are essential for the decarbonization of transport, but they face limitations related to energy density, thermal management, safety, and recyclability. RESiLiTE aims to overcome these challenges by developing innovative solutions that combine robustness, low weight, and high thermal performance, paving the way for more competitive and sustainable electric vehicles.

Innovation for more efficient electric mobility

The project focuses on integrating large-format cylindrical cells (46xx) into thermoplastic chassis, replacing aluminum structures and reducing battery weight by up to 35%. This reduction translates into higher energy density, greater autonomy, and improved performance. In addition, RESiLiTE is developing an advanced thermal management system, essential for fast, safe charging with less impact on battery lifetime.

Another project focus is safety. Thanks to intelligent diagnostic systems, early detection algorithms, and reinforced mechanical protection, RESiLiTE aims to minimize risks such as overheating and thermal runaway. All of this comes with a strong commitment to sustainability, incorporating recyclable materials, optimized manufacturing processes, and a circular economy strategy.

Technology, rigorous testing, and European collaboration

RESiLiTE development is divided into two main areas: design and development—which includes chassis, thermal management, and diagnostic algorithms—and testing and validation, with functional trials (Hardware in the Loop) as well as crash and thermal runaway tests. This approach ensures high Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) for market entry.

The project brings together a leading European consortium of companies, universities, and research centers, ensuring an integrated approach from design to sustainability and standardization.

INOVA+’s role in RESiLiTE

INOVA+ leads the dissemination, communication, exploitation, and standardization activities, ensuring that project results have real market impact. This includes communication strategies, knowledge transfer to industry, support for standardization, and the definition of sustainable business models.

In addition, INOVA+ supports overall project coordination, ensuring risk management, innovation, ethical compliance, and gender perspective integration throughout the project lifecycle.

Expected impacts on electric mobility

RESiLiTE goes far beyond technological development. The project aims to deliver safer, more efficient, and more sustainable batteries, with capabilities for fast charging and high recyclability. In the long term, it contributes to:

  • A more competitive and sustainable value chain in Europe.
  • Acceleration of zero-emission electric mobility.
  • Creation of new jobs and economic opportunities in the energy and automotive sectors.

More than just a technological project, RESiLiTE is a strategic investment in the future of clean and smart mobility. INOVA+ is proud to be part of this initiative, which places innovation and sustainability at the heart of the energy transition.
