INOVA+ in Fundão for the inauguration of the Gaming Lab
The opening of the CAET and the Gaming Lab reinforces Fundão’s role as a regional cluster under GAME-ER, funded by Horizon Europe and coordinated by INOVA+.

On 23 October, INOVA+ took part in the inauguration of the Technological Business Incubation Centre (CAET) in Fundão. The event also marked the opening of the Gaming Lab, a space dedicated to video games and gamification, created in collaboration between the Municipality of Fundão and INOVA+ under the European project GAME-ER.
Funded by the Horizon Europe programme, GAME-ER aims to study the formation, growth and maintenance of regional clusters dedicated to video games and gamification. By analysing various regional and peripheral clusters in countries such as Portugal, Scotland, France, Italy and the Czech Republic, the project seeks to develop practical recommendations and policies to strengthen and support these creative ecosystems. INOVA+ is the coordinating partner of this initiative, and Fundão has been selected as the featured Portuguese regional cluster.

During the ceremonial session, Miguel Sousa, CEO of INOVA+, underlined the importance of creating the Gaming Lab:
“Fundão is a particularly relevant case study within this project due to its uniqueness. As a cluster strategically built through local public policies, it plays a fundamental and innovative role in the video game sector. GAME-ER will continue to investigate its development, contributing both to scientific knowledge about innovative territories and to building a sustainable and inclusive future for European regions.”
The INOVA+ team also led a workshop essential to the project’s scientific progress. Using a community engagement model, the main players in Fundão’s video game industry were identified, contributing to a better understanding and development of this ecosystem.
