SOFTEN project launches MOOC to support educators in the transition to a green economy

The recently concluded SOFTEN Project, co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme, leaves as its main legacy a free MOOC that supports educators in integrating transversal and environmental skills into STEM curricula, helping to prepare students for the challenges of the green economy.

MOOC to integrate transversal and environmental skills into STEM curricula

One of the main achievements of the SOFTEN Project is the launch of a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course), now available free of charge on the Polimi Open Knowledge (POK) platform. Designed for educators, education managers and professionals, this online course offers interactive modules and practical tools to support the integration of transversal and environmental skills into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) curricula.

The MOOC is part of the Green Mentors Training Academy, an initiative of the project that supports educators in adopting innovative pedagogical methodologies, such as Service-Based Environmental Learning, aligning teaching practices with the goals of the green economy and constantly evolving global demands.

The SOFTEN Project is an Erasmus+ initiative co-funded by the European Union, designed to integrate transversal skills into STEM academic programmes and facilitate the transition to a sustainable green economy. The project aims to equip students, educators and professionals with the necessary skills to address future environmental and social challenges, promoting an education system that is more aligned with societal needs.

European consortium and the role of INOVA+ in project communication

Led by the Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences (Poland), the international SOFTEN consortium includes prestigious institutions and organisations such as Politecnico di Milano (Italy), Turku University of Applied Sciences (Finland), Kaunas University of Technology (Lithuania), the organisation Xwhy (Lithuania), the institution Stimmuli for Social Change (Greece) and the consultancy INOVA+ (Portugal). Over the past 3 years, these organisations have collaborated to create educational resources that foster essential skills, including, among others, communication, leadership and teamwork.

The project not only empowers educators but also promotes the creation of collaborative networks between higher education institutions and industry, encouraging innovation and a commitment to sustainable practices. This systemic approach reflects the urgent need to train leaders and experts capable of driving the transition towards a more sustainable and inclusive economy.

As the project’s communication leader, INOVA+ supported the promotion of the results, including the MOOC and the Green Mentors Training Academy, contributing to their dissemination at European level.

We invite educators, students and education managers to explore the MOOC and the other resources made available by the SOFTEN Project and to join this transformative initiative.
