Two funding opportunities under the Innovation Fund are open until April 24, 2025: IF24 Call and IF24 Battery. In total, up to €3.4 billion is available to accelerate the deployment of innovative and low-carbon technologies across Europe.

Objectives of the Innovation Fund 2024

  • Significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions;
  • Strengthen Europe’s capacity to produce clean and innovative technologies;
  • Develop solutions to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050;
  • Promote the competitiveness of European industry in strategic sectors such as:
  • Renewable energy
  • CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage)
  • Energy storage
  • Sustainable mobility
  • Net-zero emission buildings

Who Can Apply

  • Private and public companies;
  • Non-profit organizations;
  • Public sector entities;
  • Consortia of entities from EU Member States, Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein.

Project Requirements:

  • High level of maturity in planning and business model;
  • Robust financial and legal structure;
  • Ready to move into the implementation phase.

Innovation Fund 2024 Financing

  • The fund can cover up to 60% of eligible project costs;
  • Funding will be disbursed in phases as milestones are reached;
  • Possibility of pre-financing up to 40% of the financial support before project completion

Application Process

Key Dates:

  • Application deadline: April 24, 2025, at 17:00 (Brussels time)
  • Results announcement: Q3 2025
  • Grant and PDA agreements: expected in Q1 2026

Application Submission:

Applications must be submitted via the Funding and Tenders Portal.

This funding aims to support projects in strategic sectors such as decarbonization, clean tech manufacturing, the maritime sector, energy-intensive industries, and battery production for electric vehicles. The IF24 CALL and IF24 BATTERY calls reinforce the European Union’s commitment to innovation and the transition to climate neutrality by 2050.
